John is a PhD student in the Department of Plant Pathology who joined the Villari Lab in Fall 2018. He is working on the Southern Pine Beetle (SPB) system, focusing on the interactions between three fungal species commonly associated with the SPB and defenses of the host tree, loblolly Pine, in response to these fungi. Previously, John earned his B.S. from UC Davis and did his master’s at The Pennsylvania State University working on a Mucoromycotan mycoparasite of button mushrooms. His interests include plant pathology with a focus on mycology, particularly the interaction of fungi with one another and other organisms. When he is not in the lab keeping his fungal cultures company and sciencing, you can find him rock climbing, laying in the sunshine, or mushroom hunting.
